  • Jan 23, 2020: “I've been fortunate enough to ski at over 50 resorts, and people sometimes ask me, "What resort is my favorite?" I usually answer, "Wherever the conditions are good." If you hit a small resort on a blue sky powder day with minimal crowds, it can be magical. Likewise, if you hit Whistler-Blackcomb on a typical day, it's crowded (even mid-week), overcast and wet, and you must battle flat light and white-out conditions. Fout times I've traveled from California to Whistler, and four times I've battled white-outs at lower levels, mid-mountain, and the summits. The visibility issues alone make Whistler undesirable, but the snow quality is also a problem. For powder-hungry skiers, the fresh snow is usually heavy with moisture and often too dense for good skiing (snowborders may feel differently). Plus, the above freezing temps typical at the low 2100-foot-elevation base create melt-and-freeze snow at mid-mountain and below, which means skiing on boilerplate. And of course, it's usually raining, not snowing at the base. It's a shame, because the terrain offered by Whistler-Blackomb is spectacular. And Whistler gets a lot of snow. But it's mostly dense, wet snow, inferior in quality to Tahoe snow, and certainly far inferior to the epic powder typical in Utah or Colorado. I would not recommend Whistler-Blackcomb because of consistently poor visibility and snow quality.” 0
  • Jan 22, 2020: “I came to this resort town in the winter and it was freezing cold January but there was so much to do and to see that we didn't care about weather. Maybe only because we didn't see the Sun for 5 days in the row but snow for skiing was perfect and store and museums were open till 8pm for shopping and pubs and restaurants even longer. Great place. I want to see it and explore it in the summer as well.” 1
  • Jan 21, 2020: “From the ski in/ski out gondolas to/from Whistler Village to the seemingly endless options of trails to ski, Whistler lived up to everything I had heard. This was my first time skiing Whistler and the only disappointment was the weather (which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars). It poured and then froze in the Village, turning the cobblestone streets into a treacherous ice rink. The mountain was foggy with wet, heavy snow, so it felt similar to skiing in the “Cascade Concrete” we have in Washington. There were some brief sun breaks at lunch, but the fog never cleared at the peak so we couldn’t enjoy the panoramic views.” 2
