Victoria wird nicht umsonst „Stadt der Gärten“ genannt: Den Besucher erwarten hier zahlreiche spektakuläre Gärten, deren Bandbreite von klassischen geometrisch angelegten Gärten über historische und exotische Parkanlagen bis hin zu Gärten im Westküstenstil und diversen Themengärten reicht. Außerdem gibt es hier zahlreiche Rhododendrongärten.

Die Gärten von Victoria sind für ihre farbenfrohen Blumenarrangements und harmonischen Anlagen berühmt: Sowohl der Hatley Park National Historic Site als auch der Abkhazi Garden wurden im Jahr 2009 vom kanadischen Gartenmagazin Canadian Gardening unter die fünf sehenswertesten Gärten Kanadas gewählt. Im gleichen Jahr nahm Canadian Gardening außerdem die Butchart Gardens und die Glendale Gardens and Woodlands in die Liste der „15 schönsten Gärten Kanadas“ auf.

Einige dieser Gärten sind nur wenige Minuten vom Stadtzentrum von Victoria entfernt, andere liegen in den benachbarten Gemeinden und sind mit dem Auto oder den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln gut erreichbar.

„Hängende Blumenkörbe“ und „Flower Count“

Eines der Wahrzeichen von Victoria sind die mehr als 1.600 hängenden Blumenkörbe („Hanging Baskets“), die jedes Jahr im Frühling an den Laternenpfählen der Stadt ihre farbenfrohen Akzente setzen.

Wie mild das Klima in und um Victoria ist, zeigt sich außerdem am jährlich stattfindenden „Flower Count“.“ Bei diesem im Vorfrühling (bei Temperaturen von 10 bis 15 °Celsius) stattfindenden einwöchigen Wettbewerb zählen die Einwohner der Stadt Victoria und der angrenzenden Gemeinden ihren gesamten Blütenbestand, in der Hoffnung, als blütenreichste Gemeinde („Bloomingest Community“) gekürt zu werden.“

Finnerty Gardens contains over 4,000 different trees and shrubs with more than 1,500 rhododendron and azalea plants, including 200 collected rhododendron species, and a spectacular range of companion plants artistically displayed on a 2.6 hectare (6.5 acre) site at the southwest corner of UVic's campus. Complementing the plant life are three tranquil ponds, an inviting network of winding paths and dozens of benches, each with its own distinctive view of the gardens' ever-changing splendour. The gardens have been carefully planned and developed to provide a rich and changing array of colour, scent, form and texture all year round. In April and May, you will see the rhododendrons at their best. The gardens are open every day during daylight hours. There is no admission charge.

Former girls school & convent, St. Ann's Academy National Historic site is located just one block from the Inner Harbour. St. Ann's features 2.5 ha (6.25 ac) of restored grounds & historic interiors featuring the 1858 restored chapel, Victoria's original Catholic cathedral. Self-guided tours available in the Interpretive Centre. Restored grounds are open dawn to dusk daily; great for a break from shopping with the kids & the dog.
