Darts Hill Garden Park is 7.5 acres of rare and precious plants, many of which were planted from seeds collected from around the world.

When Edwin and Francisca Darts purchased the land in 1943, it was covered with bush, regrown after logging in the 1800s. Together, they transformed their land first into an award-winning orchard, and then into the unique garden that is Darts Hill today. The garden is the proud result of a pioneering spirit, passion, and dedication.

Built in 1986, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is the first full-scale Scholar Garden built outside China using traditional techniques. Covered walkways and exquisite architecture make it a delight in any weather or season, with the same relaxing, serene landscape as found in the old, private gardens of China's ancient elite. This living museum promotes the understanding of cultures through daily tours, festivals, monthly art exhibitions, music concerts and unique live theatre productions in summer. The best blooming time for the lavender display gardens is early July, with distillation, a very fragrant time at the farm, occurring in early August. Wander our unique Herb Gardens which bloom throughout the growing season.

Come and tour the gardens' many special garden spaces, walk our labyrinth, watch the honeybees hard at work in the apiary or the butterflies in the butterfly garden. Take some time for yourself in our meditation garden or bring friends and family by for a picnic on the main lawn.

Entry is by donation. Open daily 10:00 am-4:00 pm.

Finnerty Gardens contains over 4,000 different trees and shrubs with more than 1,500 rhododendron and azalea plants, including 200 collected rhododendron species, and a spectacular range of companion plants artistically displayed on a 2.6 hectare (6.5 acre) site at the southwest corner of UVic's campus. Complementing the plant life are three tranquil ponds, an inviting network of winding paths and dozens of benches, each with its own distinctive view of the gardens' ever-changing splendour. The gardens have been carefully planned and developed to provide a rich and changing array of colour, scent, form and texture all year round. In April and May, you will see the rhododendrons at their best. The gardens are open every day during daylight hours. There is no admission charge.
